Communication Innovation Certainly my communication skills have evolved in response to innovations in technology. Gone are the days when my neon green pager sings a sweet melody to alert me to find the house phone and dial an unknown number, just to find out who wishes to speak with me. Now, my fingers can quickly tap out a full-text, often perfectly spelled (thanks, auto-correct!) text message or email from anywhere in the world. Even more impressive, I can use that same pocket-sized device to video chat with family or friends, no matter the distance between us. Incredible!
Classroom Communication Innovation
Advancements in technology have revolutionized the way communication looks in the classroom, too. My absolute favorite communication tool for classroom use is the free app, Remind. The fact that I can mass-text my students without having to even know their phone numbers is amazing. Add to that the easy scheduling features, and I am in heaven. I love to text words of encouragement to students before a major assignment is due. I also enjoy being able to hook them on a lesson by sending somewhat cryptic messages about the events to come in class. Remind is in its third year, and they continue to create new versions of the app that are even more impressive than the last. The most recent update that allows students to respond to questions sent by the teacher is an awesome tool to check for understanding after class is over. I have no doubt that Remind will continue to develop more innovative components of their already awesome web tool.
