Evaluate 2.1.1 Data Driven Instruction, Analytics, Reporting Tools

I love that online teachers have access to so many different tools to help ensure our students are successful. Here are some of the tools and how they can benefit students and teachers in a virtual learning environment:

1. Enrollment and Attendance:
My principal often says, "We can teach them, if they come." Understanding who is enrolled and how often they are "attending" is a clear predictor of student performance. Also, knowing which standardized test a student needs to take is important to be sure that all parties are on the same page.

2. Communication Log:
Effective learning environments often involve all stakeholders. It's important for teachers to provide specific documentation when any stakeholder is notified of a student's progress to be sure that needs and expectations of all parties are met.

3. Monitoring Progress and Analytics:
Frequent monitoring of progress and analytic information can be used to make sure that students are on the right track and putting in the required effort. Should the course analytic information indicate that a student is not doing the required work or meeting the instructor's expectation, the instructor can work with the student and his/her parents to intervene and make adjustments in time to still be successful in the course.

4. Students Monitoring Their Journey:
Providing our students with access to their own monitoring tools encourages them to be accountable and take responsibility for their own progress. Students should frequently evaluate their progress and assess their effort, then make adjustments as they see fit. This is the sign of a truly responsible learner.
