Communicate 4.1.1 Evaluation Methods and Communication Practices

Communication and Feedback
In the virtual learning environment, effective feedback is especially significant because it is the only way that students receive affirmation from an instructor. In a face-to-face setting, a student may feel validated simply by watching a teacher smile and nod after the student responds to a question. That type of validation is lost in a virtual classroom; therefore, effective feedback and communication are paramount in fostering an authentic learning environment where students are responsible and accountable. Online instructors can create this type of positive interaction by commenting on student work in a timely fashion. By posting authentic feedback, students will feel validated much in the same way they do in a traditional classroom setting.
