Participate 4.1.3 Digital Health Quest

In this digital age, we must absolutely pay close attention to the impact that our digital habits have on our health. I believe that my experiences as a graduate student in an online M.Ed. program really pushed me to find a balance between technology and my overall well-being.

Reflection Questions:

What is the most proactive means of ensuring the most balanced blend of technology and well-being? Here are some of the habits that I have developed over the last several years:
  • A comfortable, ergonomic work station is a must.
  • A quiet room, away from all distractions.
  • My tech work does not begin until 8pm, after my son is asleep.
  • My husband and I reserve Thursday evenings to spend time with each other. No work allowed!
  • All bedrooms in our house are no technology zones.
  • I will spend at least 30 minutes unwinding after working before trying to sleep.
What can students and teachers do to make sure they get the most from technology while simultaneously safeguarding good health? Teachers can be sure that they are promoting good health for their students by providing adequate time to complete tech related assignments. This will ensure that students are not spending hours on end working online and that they are able to maintain a balanced family and social life.
